CONTROVERSIAL BOOK RELEASE “THE POWER OF SHUT UP”
Accomplished writer Lisa D. Washington has learned the power of the word “shut up” and it has changed her life. From a young girl growing up in a mixed community and speaking freely, to moving to Atlanta and experiencing the KKK in the streets for the first time, it became a very humbling experience.
Taking on the demeanor of humble seemed to backfire in Lisa’s life so she decided to change and to become more assertive. That transition didn’t go so well, as there is no communication when no one is listening. Arguing with people didn’t help much to get a point across. One day, Lisa stepped back and watched how her Mom commanded respect but could always remain pleasant while doing so. She realized by observation that the answer was to just simply “shut up and listen”. Most people are concerned about getting their point across or how something was said, that they end up missing the core of the conversation.
That is when Lisa realized she needed to pen what she has learned in a book and share with the masses. Published by Pen Legacy LLC Publishing, the goal of the book titled “The Power Of Shut Up” is to share with women, men, young adults, even young teenagers the power of words and why it’s not necessary to accept every invitation to drama and noise. “Too many people are reacting so quickly and people are dying because a smart remark that was said. I want to encourage people to think before they speak and speak intentionally. You can gain so much from a thoughtful and purposeful word or sometimes saying nothing at all,” states Lisa. She also adds that, “I understand the negativity that comes along with the word “shut up”, but in life, we sometimes need to just silence ourselves at the moment so we can understand more clearly“.
